Tanzania March 2018 - Antelopes and Wildebeest |
As mentioned on Page 1, I am splitting the photos by type of animal this time around. Please click on the following links to see the page you'd like to view: |
There was quite a lot of wildebeest around - not as many as we'd seen on other trips perhaps but still a fair number. Kevin explained that the change in the rain pattern had unsettled them so they weren't sure where to go next. |
Whilst there might have been fewer wildebeest, there were more dikdik than I'd ever seen before. There were also more eland but they seemed more nervous than the dikdik even though they are a lot bigger. |
There were a few Grant's gazelle around and about - the cheetahs that we spent Wednesday afternoon with had their eye on a small herd of them (but we didn't see them chasing them, let along catching one!) |
There were also the usual impala around - lovely, graceful creatures. |
We also saw a couple of tiny steinbok - such delicate little animals. |

Grant's Gazelle |
We came across a whole load of Grant's gazelle on Day 4, a few Hartebeest and a herd of Thompson's gazelle. |
Some of the Thompson's gazelle were quite active - not sure what they were running away from. |
Wildebeest calves are quite cute. This one wasn't with its mum - it was with a few male wildebeest instead but there were quite a few other wildebeest around so hopefully one of those was mum and they were reunited quite quickly. |

These dikdik looked very wet (Day 6 rained all day!) |
Two "new" species (for this holiday) for Day 7: 1. a bushbuck on the left 2. a klipspringer in the centre and on the right. |
We also saw more hartebeest than we'd seen up to this point and a couple of topi. |
Although we had a few bachelor male impala come into camp at Dunia, the females were a bit more elusive but there were quite a few of them around. |
This golden jackal was clearly in the wrong place as far as the Grant's gazelle was concerned - so he was seen off! |
Lovely to see some Hartebeest calves |
Also lovely to see some baby Thompson's gazelles |
Steinbok - trying hard not to show his face but curiosity got the better of him in the end. |
Thompson's Gazelle getting their morning exercise |
I think this might be the closest we have ever been to a topi. |
These two Thompson gazelles were putting on a very amusing show! |
