Our Garden October 2014
view

It was a sunny evening in early October when I wandered around with the camera. We'd had a dry day so Jonathon had managed to get the grass cut and striped. The sun was getting to be quite low as you'll see from the photos.

ceanothus

The Ceanothus really shouldn't be flowering at this time of year but it seemed quite happy and was clearly enjoying the mild weather we'd been having.

cosmos

The last of the Cosmos were still around but not many left.

echinops

The Echinops had just about lost their colour but were still providing the birds with a food source. There were also quite a few berries around.

grapes

The birds had been enjoying the grapes as well. There were still a few but definitely less than last time I took photos.

blue flower

This lovely little flower provides some great colour in the autumn.

pigs

The pigs will have to move soon because the pink standard rose is going to go here - hope the rose (and the pigs) survive the move!

fuchsia

The Fuchsias were full of flowers.

sedum

I love Sedum so have split it a bit and spread it around the garden to enjoy more plants.

viburnum

The Viburnum was better in October than it was in the Spring!

The Acers were starting to show their autumn colours but still had a way to go.

teasel

Another plant that provides a good source of food for the birds is the teasel.

dahlia

A couple of Dahlias survived over winter and flowered again this year - lovely bright colours.

dahlia

Another lovely dahlia, this one in a pot rather than a bed.

sycamore

The sycamore trees were lit up beautifully by the evening sun.

robinia

The robinia was also starting to turn colour.

tom

Not much food left in the garden but still some tomatoes and brassicas (protected from the pigeons and cabbage whites) for later. There were also a few runner beans and raspberries.

hydra

Plenty of colour around from the Heuchera bed on the left to the Hydrangea above.

hydra

This Hydrangea was white and then got darker and darker pink as the season progressed (it's not the one in the photo on the left).

pampas

The pampas looked amazing with the evening sun behind them. I can't understand why Jonathon doesn't like them. I think they're great in winter.

That's it for this month.
