Our Garden - May 2015 |
May has arrived and there's plenty of colour in the garden at the moment so it's a pleasure to walk around with my camera. The bluebells are in full flower - they're beautiful. |
The Spiraea is still full of colour. You might remember that I cut the cotinus back (as advised by the RHS). It's just starting to leaf up now. |
There are lots of Forget me nots around as well. |
Lots of leaf colour around with the Heuchera and Acers. |
This is the first year that the tree paeony has had a flower on it - lovely. |
The aubretia is doing its usual pretty stuff. |
I've planted a few cosmos and snapdragons today so hope they grow and give us colour in the summer. |
The wallflowers are the best they've ever been. |
The pigs have moved into the gravel bed for a while. |
We have a couple of small azaleas - this lovely pink one and a white one. |
The tamarisk (right) is just about to burst into pink. |
The tulips are still giving us a lot of colour in the garden. |
The veg and fruit are coming along nicely. From top left we have peas, broad beans, onions, strawberries, potatoes. |
Shouldn't forget the apple blossom. Looks like we might get a good crop of apples this year. |
The choisya is also flowering nicely at the moment. |
The clematis is putting on a good show as well. |
More pink from the Judas tree. |
The first rose of the season (or one of them at least). |
That's it for this walk around. It's now later in May, most of the bluebells and tulips have died back but other plants have burst into flower. It's amazing how quickly the garden changes in May, my favourite month for the back garden. |
As mentioned above, the azaleas are doing well this year. This white one is amazingly pretty. |
The pink one is putting on a good show for us this year as well. |
There are still some plants in the garden whose name I don't know. Worryingly, there are also some plants in the garden that I planted whose name I can't remember. |
The Ceanothus is blooming. |
The lilac smells lovely as you walk past. |
These lovely little Lily of the Valley pop up year after year - so pretty. |
Some of the roses are already flowering. The yellow one at the front is usually the first out (as it was this year) followed by the others around the garden. |
The choisya makes a good hedge on the slope down to the garden. |
The Judas Tree is flowering well this year. |
Sometimes it's nice to just sit, listen to the water in the pond, watch the fish and think of all the good things in life, not least the fresh fruit and veg we will enjoy later in the year. |
Apparently it's a good year for strawberries - yummy! |
There are all sorts of shapes and textures in the garden most of the year but late Spring probably provides the largest selection. |
The tamarisk is in full flower - it looks beautiful when its coloured fronds sway in the breeze. |
It's lovely to have colour in the garden but you need areas of green as well to give your eyes a rest. |
Especially when the colours are as bright as this - sensory overload. |
I love the way the iris catch the sunlight. |
This little Cistus was grown from seed - very delicate. The Cotinus (right) seems to have survived its hard prune. |
As the Forget-me-nots die back, the Geraniums start to flower. The circle of life. |
These Acquilegia are self seeded but encouraged. Very pretty flowers. |
The slugs and snails really like our hostas so it's a constant battle. The hailstorm we had earlier this week helped to make the leaves look battered as well! |
These pretty Osteospurmum pop up every year. I wasn't aware they were perennial - perhaps nobody told them! |
The clematis are looking lovely, both those in the pots and the "hedge" between us and Bob next door. |
That's it for this month. Hope you enjoyed walking around my garden with me. |
